I am very interested in Tai Chi. I began reading about, practicing, and looking into Tai Chi a year and half ago. From the moment I participated in my first at home video, I instantly felt the calm and peace wash over me. I will continue to learn about, practice and pursue additional training course and possible certification courses over the following months.
Tai Chi: Movement for Better Balance
I recently attended a two day training for a very specific 8 Form routine designed for the specific purpose of improving balance/ mobility and to prevent falls. The paragraph to the right is the brochure summary and video link below is of me performing these 8 Forms. I hope to be able to teach this course in full in the near future. If you are interested in this course for private training I would be happy to work with you one on one or in private groups as well.
"This is an evidence-based community fall prevention program for older adults. The protocol, which involves a set of simple, continuous rhythmic and functional Tai Chi based movements, represents a significant enhancement of traditional Tai Chi transforming the purposeful movements into therapeutic training of balance. Practice focuses on training of sensory systems via voluntary movements such as weight shifting from foot to foot, unilateral weight-bearing, trunk rotation, ankle sways, and eye-led head movements. The goals of the training are to improve postural stability, control of body positioning, gait (movement) initiation, movement symmetry and coordination, and to build lower-extremity strength. Chair-supported practices, progressing from completely seated, through sit-and-stand, to chair-assisted Tai Chi movements, are also included to meet the specific needs and performance capabilities of individual patients."
